Khorog State University

    Khorog State University has been founded in August 5, 1992 according the declaration of Secretary Boards of Tajikistan Republic under the №249 during independence of the country.

The establishment of the university played a great role in moral, educational, cultural and scientifically life of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous region and remained in the history of education and culture in Badakhshan forever.

    Khorog State University despite all difficulties in the first days of independence as a center of education and science, managed to combine intellectual power in the region. As a scientifically, cultural and educational center, it became the main source and economical life in mountainous area for the further development of moral-education, self-identity and put foundation to all spheres of life.

Khorog State University within its exultance becomes a real research center and it’s still has been developing.

    From the first day of its establishment Khorog State University had only two faculties (Humanitarian and Natural Scientific) including 200 students, who were taught by 25 trainers, amongst whom were one doctor of sciences and 6 candidates of sciences:

    Now Khorog State University has got 8 faculties and 21 departments and they train students on 40 specialties. There are two specialties at the Mathematics Faculty- general Math and practical Math,  in Physics faculty, physics and primary teaching, in Biological Faculty, biology, ecology, bio-ecology, geography; natural sciences chemistry, geology, hydro melioration; in Philological Faculty, Tajik and literature, Tajik and English, Persian Language, Journalistic; in History and Law Faculty. The total number of students of the University now is 5040, including students who are studying at correspondence courses.

    University has close international cooperation with educational organizations around the world (ERASMUS MUNDUS, TEMPUS, IREX, DAAD, UCA, and HPAKE) and exchange students and trainers with different countries. 

    Through educational programs, international organizations every year some trainers and students make trips to foreign countries where they develop their professional skills and do research works there.  

    Biology faculty is one of the leading faculties of Khorog State University that functions from the first days of the foundation of the University (1992) also basic centers of preparing on scientific-pedagogical specialists for institutes of higher education, secondary schools of the Tajikistan.

    At the moment the department of the faculty is conducting researchers on the  following themes «Dynamics of plants and blooming the desert  plants of Western Pamir and their  products», «Problems and perspective  development of tourism  in mountainous  conditions of Tajik republic, «Stable influence of physical resources on growing plants»,  «Learning the influence of ultra-violet   rays and other resources of living activity of  animals» , «Physics-chemical aspects of reactivation growth of  plants  under the influence of ultra-violet rays», «Fetal of annual stern plants in dependence of temporary sowing in Western Pamir conditions», «Avifauna of Badakhshan» and etc.
